Buckskin Gulch - The longest known slot canyon

Buckskin Gulch - The longest known slot canyon

At over 11 miles the BUCKSKIN GULCH is the longest & deepest slot canyon in the Southwest & (possibly THE WORLD).

We've done Antelope Canyon (Upper & Lower) and although they are similar they don't compare. They're definitely all worth seeing.

While Antelope Canyon can only be done by guided tour, Buckskin Gulch can be roamed freely (and somehow it was much less crowded).

It goes on for about 11 miles and there just aren't words to describe how you feel when you're exploring them.

How to visit: I recommend driving to the Escalante Visitor Center in Kanab, Utah. That's where you'll get all the info (including maps). It is a MUST to get a map because cell service is very bad in the area. From there it is pretty straight forward to reach the parking lot, where you can find the directions to walk to the Buckskin Gulch.

Who can go: This place is super family friendly. Anyone of any age can easily walk through the canyon.

When: Fall is a good time for weather & it's the tail end of the season so less people will be there. We went in early October & it was perfect.

What to wear: Highly suggest hiking shoes, layers, & sunscreen.

How long do you need: This can be done on a weekend. Taking travel time into consideration, no more than 2-3 days is needed.

If you are on the West Coast and you’re looking for a weekend adventure, this is the perfect quick nature getaway. You can either drive from Southern California or fly into Vegas and drive from there. There are plenty of easy ways to get there, and they are all affordable and easy.
