Things to know if you travel often

I travel often for work and although traveling for work sounds glamorous (and don’t get me wrong I’m super grateful for it & that I get to do it with my partner), but it can be exhausting.

On our work trips the first day is always a travel day and the second day is recovery. With all the changes brought about by traveling (time change, sleeping in a different place, different weather/temperatures to account for, not eating my normal diet)… maintaining a routine & schedule takes extra effort, but it’s not impossible.

If you travel often it’s extra important to:

  • Create a schedule. Staying in a routine will help you stay consistent with your overall goals.

  • Write a to do list detailing all the things you need to do before or on your trip.

  • Write a packing list so you don’t forget anything. Lists help you stay organized & reduce stress.

  • Load up on vitamins (primarily vitamin C). The sooner the better, but especially two weeks before your trip.

  • Drink lots of water. Staying hydrating will help your mind & body function better.

  • Carry antibacterial lotion and/or wipes. Clean your area in the airplane and wash your hands more often than usual.

  • Take immunity boasting shots. I like Vive - found on Amazon or Wholefoods.

  • Get good sleep. Rest is the best way to keep your immune system high so you can fight off any bugs.

  • Stay active. Don't give up on being fit just cause you’re traveling. Find a local gym & pay for visitor’s pass or replace the gym for outdoor activities like hiking.

  • Make time to mix business with pleasure. If you are traveling for work, find something fun to explore in the area you are visiting. This will make your trip much more enjoyable and you will be more likely to look forward to other work trips.

Traveling a lot can be tiresome (especially if it’s for work) but it’s also lots of fun if you plan & prepare.

Wishing you safe & happy travels!
